Just adopted a Rooster

Hens are beating him up.

How old is he? Many times the hens will bully young cockerels. Boys don't have command until they are fully mature.

I LOVE that you adopted him! So many unwanted roosters out there.

Do make sure that he has hideouts, and alternative roosts, but other than that, let them work it out, unless there is blood. Older hens can teach a young rooster quite a few things and often times he will fit into their society much better later on.

It won't always work, but it often works.

Is he crowing and mating with the hens? Maybe the hens think he is a hen?

Once he's over the stress of being in a new and unfamiliar place he will probably gain confidence.

Give him two weeks, it took that long for one of mine to get to roost with the girls. They adored him.

I had him 3 weeks. He did fertilize eggs and they are in the incubator. I did find him a home with a teen girl who has 8 hens. In the 3 weeks he was here he didn't fertilize all the eggs, and he never crowed. I didn't keep him because he was red. I was afraid of getting black chicks. He was very tame though.
