Just another DOG attack, With complications...

WOW,
You all have come up with some really good suggestions.

JMajors.. I love the idea of using the clippers! That was too funny!!
I really might have to try that one though.

I have a chain link fenced area my flower and pond garden is in, I dont mind at all putting Maggie in there. Dig up what she wants, as long as she isnt after my chickens!

Im gonna go over and get her dog house they never use, and put her in the fence and tell them she is now MY DOG!!
If Nick dosent come to get her back, I will work on finding her a new home.

I hate to because my dog is in the back yard most of the time.
My dog Sebastian is a Great Pyr/St. Barnard that watches over the chickens (usually). Nicks dog Maggie is a Whippet/Hound and really fast!
I saw her do a 'hit and run' last time and Sebastian didnt have a chance of catching up to her before she had the Phoenix roo.
But his being there is probably why the roo got away that time.
My dog stays in my yard though, but the animal controll might not know that or care.
I usually keep Sebastian in the house during the day and he stays outside with the chickens at night. He loves them. And I credit him with why I havent had a preditor attack (till maggie).
I live in a heavily wooded area on a couple acres, attatched to moms 30 acres that is attatched to the 50 something acre park.
Lots of preditors around here.

You just explained the problem when you said it was a whippet. She belongs to the sighthound family and is a born hunter. Adding to that sighthounds are not easily trained and don't take well at all to being punished. You need someone with sighthound experience for better advise. I own an Italian Greyhound and am very lucky that she ignores my chickens. Totally different story if she sees a rabbit!
These dogs need daily running time and also very close supervision as they will take off if they see something to chase. They do not respond if they are on a chase. And they are very quick! A fenced area is your best bet. One that she can't jump out of.
If I was closer I'd offer to take her. I love sighthounds.

edit- just noticed it's a girl

If you need to rehome her, check your area for any sighthound rescues. I know some rescues keep an eye out on their local Craigslist. Try to find someone familiar with her breed as they are not your normal dog.

Sounds like some good advice.

My hat is off to those who have contributed to the thread so far for keeping it constructive and civil.
