Just bought 11 Rhode island reds

I am horrible, I just bought 11 RIR from a lady, I had to drive 1hour and half to get them, anyways I bought eleven and put the only in one box, well when I got home opened up the box just to find one of them was dead, my thought was that she got smashed or maybe it was too hot in the box for 11 hens, she did left an egg tho, anyways I put them on their new home feed them water and feed, and they all seem like they were disoriented at first but they warmed up really quickly to their new enviroment so now there alll eating and drinking water just fine, exept for one one is jut standing in front of the water bucket with her eyes closed, so my question is, is that normal behavior for a chicken that was just moved or could there be something wrong with her? also all of them are debeaked, i ask the lady why and she said that its because she bought them from a farm and they all came like this, is she telling the truth or is that a lie?

IMHO there is no reason to debeak unless you are going to keep them in overcrowded conditions. It is painful. As for the sick bird you could have brought home chickens with some type of illness. While it is to late, you will want to go to your local bookstore or public library and pick up a book or two on raising chickens. You will find many of the answers to questions you will have there.

thanks, yeah I probably bought sick chickens, so if they lay eggs would it still be ok to eat the eggs?

Put them on gamebird feed its packed with protein and as for the sicky keep her warm and quiet she may be just one of those who go into shock when there moved.
