So being our 2 girls are going to be introduced to our chicks in a month we have got a new coop. It should arrive in 2 weeks! Depending on the gender of the chicks we will have anywhere from 6 to 2 (no cockerals allowed here) if that's the case we'll get some pol girls and having 2 coops will make the quarantine easier.

It says up to 12 but my calculations that 9 would be a maximum for the right amount of space. They free range when we're home so it'll be only be when I'm at work.
I wanted to build one but hubby took the easier option and picked this one. We have a similar make for our 2 which says 4 chickens but I wouldn't put more than 2 in there. It's weird that they seem to think more chickens can fit.

Its not weird and they really dont think more would fit in there.
Its all about marketing to make money. And dishonest marketing.
All those snap together coops are listed to hold more than twice what they should.
They can lie to make more money. If they say it holds 12 it sounds like its worth more then if theyre honest and say it would hold 4 to 6.

I guess so. I just think of how many people don't realise and do cram that many in there. Hubby would without even thinking. He thought I was being silly calculating how much space per chicken.

My thoughts exactly! Makes me so mad the manufacturers of these "coops" get away with false advertising.

I would questions even 9....how big is it...in feet by feet(or meters by meters)?

365x175cm for the run so worked out to be 68.36ft2 according to Google. I only know metrics. Our council says 6ft2 per chicken overall but being they free range a lot I was working on that and a bit more.

But the coop is what really counts.....4sqft of floor space per bird minimum and 1 foot roost length per bird.

So you're right then. I worked out coop space and it'll got 7 not 9 like I originally said. Luckily we'll only have 6 maximum if all goes well with the chicks but I am pretty sure 2 are cockerals so won't be able to live here.
