Greetings everyone!

I'm hailing from the Dallas Fort Worth area of Texas but I'm originally from Anchorage, Alaska. I just bought my first home. The cities around smaller one I'm in allow chickens, but this city has no regulations for or against them.

A quick summary of who I am. I'm 33, own my own small business where I manage IT departments and provide IT consulting to small businesses. I've always loved to grow food, and the last time I had access to a yard I produced a few 100lbs of potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, etc. just to name a few. Getting a small flock of chickens would compliment my 'homestead/urban farm' dreams well. I also have a pretty significant tick problem where I'm at that I think they could help with. I also dream of 1 or 2 bee-hives for pollination and honey purposes.

The house I bought is a .3 acre lot with 3 full grown pecan trees and 1 full grown fig tree. My plans are to put in 8-10 raised beds over the next few years and produce 50% of my own food.

I'm joining this forum to get some guidance on setting up my first coop and selecting my first chickens. I have some pictures of my gardening efforts and yard on http://www.instagram.com/synplay and http://www.synsurvival.com.

Thank you for letting me join!
