Just bought some Chantecler chickens - does anyone else have them?

They are great to let free range. My 2 go back to the coop throughout the day for food and water, return to the fields for foraging, and always return to the coop at dusk. However, they are always the last in the coop.

You have been so helpful. Thanks. I am really excited about having them. Any other pointers you could give me to get prepared for their arrival? And again, thanks a lot for the help!!

Not much pointers left to give...just handle them daily and they'll stay very sweet. Mine will actually "talk" to me when I pick them up. I absolutely adore them. I'm actually getting some hatching eggs from a different breeder this week. Best of luck with your beauties!

ETA: You're very welcome...I'm glad I could offer some help.

I got my buff and partridge from Ideal. The partridge are skittish and are shaped more like game or Cornish with the long necks. The buff are super sweet and follow us around like puppies. I prefer the body type of the buff so fluffy and big. The only thing that disappointed me was that two of the three ended up with pea combs rather than the cushion type I was looking for. I won't be breeding these males with pea combs so I'll have to get some eggs from a private breeder if I want to set up a perpetual flock. The buff are very very docile.

I have buff Chantecler and have found them to be fantastic – very sweet, they follow me around like puppies and when they were younger, they jumped on me for petting. Here is my favorite pic of Little Hen, a Chantecler pullet, with her best buddy Pretty Chicken (a Chantecler – EE hybrid) dust bathing.
