Just bought some Chantecler chickens - does anyone else have them?

I am dealing with my first hatch of Partridge Chanteclers. If I had to guess, I would guess that they are slow growers. They seem to be smaller than the laying hen chicks I have raised in the past, but I don't have any weights and measurements to confirm.

I didn't weigh the Chants, but did find them to be slow growing. The pullet I kept was really small and slow...I thought she was a runt...but I think just taking her time to put on weight!

(PS, glad you like my moniker, Pathfinder! You know how cold it gets here....brrrrr....hope my chickies make it ok through their first winter!)

Hi all! As Tim said, the Chanteclers are a slow-growing breed. I love mine--the roosters are non-aggressive and the hens can be friendly. I've hatched about 2 dozen chicks this year and have had only a few deaths. They are a very hardy breed, thats why I like them so much!

I have a couple of Chant chicks that I got from John Blehm. Honestly, I can't say that they're that much slower growing than my Delawares. But then again, mine free range so they get LOTS of exercise and protein.

As for free ranging...the Chantecler CAN NOT BE BEAT! My little guys go everywhere. When they were younger, I actually had to go find them in the pasture because they would range so far that they'd forget how to get back home!

my six Buff's came from Stacykins, and she got the eggs from Shelleyb, I lost one almost immediately to a Jack Russell

and now I find at least 2 of them are roosters. I will probably have to get rid of one if anyone wants it PM me and we'll make some arrangements. I'm in Michigan near the southernedge of Saginaw Bay. I will only give it FREE to a BYCer, because of their critical standing in the charts. Mine are all nice birds and I love them alot, hand fed and put themselves away at night, I just go lock the door up!!
here's what they look like:

They are great to let free range. My 2 go back to the coop throughout the day for food and water, return to the fields for foraging, and always return to the coop at dusk. However, they are always the last in the coop.

Mine are the same way Shelley, last night I let it go a little past 9:30 so when I walked out to lock the door up I didn't realize 3 of them had already roosted on the top edge of some chain link sections leaned up by the house. Only the two roosters were in!! But they faired alright, pretty high off the ground, were still there this morning at 7:20 when I went out. It surprised me. Usually if I want them IN before 9:30 I have to tease them with treats and lead them to the coop, they are such suckers.
