Just built my a roost for my girls (+1 roo) today :) (pic)

The other 6 were roosting down on the support beam below! It's a 1x4 with the small side up! (you can see it in the pic) Silly chickens

That is funny! You just never know what they'll decide they like or will do.

I spent a whole afternoon designing a roost large enough for all my birds. Imagine my surprise when I peeked in their window one night and couldn't see a single one on the roost! They discovered the rafters and had used my roost as a stepping stone to get up there! You just never know.

Mine won't use the wide ones.. perhaps it's because it's so warm here in Phoenix.

wanda047 .... Mine wanted to roost on the raters as well.... I had to block the one closest to thier roost with plywood to avoid that LOL

Unfortuately the rafters were positioned over their food and water also so that could never work.

Nice job on the roost btw

I would think that since heat rises that the rafters would be a spot they would avoid, but that's where mine stay. Maybe they just feel safer up there.
