i raised 4 turkeys got them around easter butcherd them today 4 months old all over 30 pounds toms around 40 i brought them home put them right in the freezer will these be tough? their broad breasted bronze turkeys just wondering if they will be tough??? the other question their so big anyone no of way to roast them im trien to find a pan or something big enuff to coook them in this winter?

No, they shouldn't be tough. We also had the problem of not having a large enough pan. We cut our birds in half and still ended up having to put tinfoil over the top of the roaster because the lid wouldn't fit!

Holy moley that's some mighty big turkeys you've got in your freezer!

I had thought of raising some next year alongside our FR's spring order. Sounds like 16 weeks might be too long grow-out if we're only needing a 15# bird? Hmmm, maybe it's NOT too late to add some to our CX fall order? I wonder....

Did you wait to butcher until they were well filled out? Or simply timing, life, scheduling, etc.?

i just did what the feed store told me to do is keep them for 4 months i went a lil over 4 about 4 in a half they fed and grazed daily if they turn out good i will be butchering them at 3 in half months next year

I plan on doing my tukeys in novemer my tom is already 25lbs. Cant wait until i can save money from buying so much feed!! I only have 2!!!

Wow all over 30lbs thats impressive. I have 2 BBWs a tom and a hen they are roughly 15 weeks. I was hoping to hold out til they were 20 weeks but the tom is getting mighty big and I fear his legs might give out. Do you have pics of them live before process? My tukeys only just now started their 3rd 50lb bag of feed and I have a feeling they wont get to even finish it.

Pease, please, please share your secret! How/where do you get is so inexpensively?!?!?!?! I think I'm paying about $15 for only 50lbs!!!!!!!

I just did my 8 yesterday. Some things I noticed about it are that first off I want more help next time I do turkeys. They aren't aggressive just big and hard to do because I am tiny. Second I think next time I am going to do them at around 3 months rather than 4. They were monsters. The largest was 25 pounds dressed the smallest was a little girl and was 15 dressed. Was hoping for 19 to 20 lbs tops lol. We got them Beginning of May so they were about 3 and a half months. I put mine right in the freezer too but I don't think they will be tough they were still pretty young. I also think I am free ranging them full time next year. I will have a fence around my entire property so they can come and go as they want and no worries about other peoples dogs eating them on me. I also think I am going to get all girls next year rather than girls and boys. The boys beat on each other and were rather aggressive towards each other towards the end. The girls were much more mellow.
