Just call me paranoid or impatient

Ok so today is day 21 for one out of 14 shipped eggs... I hadn’t seen movement so I candled yesterday. Internal pip was there. Air cell isn’t quite at the top of egg sort of on one side. No chirping that I have noticed. Egg is wiggling every once in a while.

I am just wondering at what point (no plans to do this anytime soon, but don’t want to loose this chick). Do I help or at lead make a saftey hole.. I know I still have time but how long does it normally take to externally pip after internally. It has been over 24 hours now...

Worried is all..
Just buy birds

They didn’t develop... I am being impatient I know... I didn’t set them til around 7pmish.. I think becaus I am home and don’t have much to keep me occupied it’s driving me nuts nothing but some wiggling is happening.. lol. Why does it have to be so exciting that we just can’t wait... ok now I sound like a little kid wanting a new toy.. lol. Thanks for the reassurance

I was in the same fix as you since I am permanently disabled with a lot of time on my hands so I watched those eggs alot but I left the eggs alone out of fear I would mess something up. I tried to hatch 14 Bielefelder eggs and only had one hatch, a rooster so I contacted the people I bought the eggs from and they told me they would ship me another 14 eggs if I paid the shipping so I did. Out of the next 14 eggs I got one hen so I am not happy with the out come since the seller was a NPIP farmer. I would have been trilled to have one rooster and 3 hens.

Sadly to say the hatched chick died.. she was four days old... not moving much, not trying to scratch around, only wanted to sleep... I knew there was something wrong with it.. wobbly on its feet when it did walk. Took until day three to actually walk with legs straight like normal...

So I am not happy with the turn out with shipped eggs here.. just had another 12 shipped hatch yesterday two made it to lockdown one hatched and seems strong the other died sometime before the yolk absorbed its head was between its feet..

This is why I let my girls hatch the eggs

I have about a 50/50 success rate with a safety chip. I candle and see where the beak is if the shell has not broken away indicating beak location. I make a little break at the beak point and pull the shell and membrane off so the chick gets plenty of air. Normally I let the chick take it from there but if the egg is really late in hatching I will take the top off so all the chick has to do is kick out of the shell. If it has been a couple of days over hatch time I figure its yolk reserves are being using up and so it needs to come out and start feeding ASAP. Like I mentioned, it is about a 50/50 success rate. I figure most of the time there is something wrong with the chick's development and so it is not meant to survive; I dont blame myself for assisting.

Sorry hear you lost the baby. It really is a toss up and some say if the chick is not strong enough to hatch out on its own it is not going to survive. It is always so hard to lose them. Im sure you did the best you could for it.
