Day 10! Just candled, 5/7 silkie eggs I think are good, and 2/2 Silver laced Wyandottes!

But something is making a weird noise? It... sounds like a chipchipchip / scratching, but it's only day 10? I checked to see if it was the bator, or the thermometers but it isn't. It can't possibly be the eggs could it?

EDIT// I checked the what I thought were dead eggs, and one had a completely busted up yolk, and the other one wasn't dead even though it looked like it wasn't developing.

I feel horrible now, I killed one of my babies.

No ideas on what the scratchy sound could be?

The eggs look like they're over developed... Is this meaning that the chicks most likely wont survive? They look like they're on day 12 instead of 10.

The weird thing is that it did sound like it was coming from the egg. But none of the eggs are old enough for it? So am confused on it. It stopped now, though.

The temps have been from 100-102. If I try to get them they turn into 98-99.0. Is it better to run the lower temp?

Yep, it's a still air. Yay, the temps fine! If the chicks come before day 21 will the mortality rate be high for their lives as chicks?

Do you have a automatic turner? My first one didn't make a noise and the new one I got made the same "scratchy" noise. Almost like a chick trying to work out. It made me wonder too. There are cases where a egg is incubated for awhile one place, then after long periods of time, reincubated and pick up where they have left off. It turned out to be the turner.

I was wanting to experience that for myself!

hope u didn't miss one and it's a rotting egg fizzing...ugh....yikes....BOOM!!!!!!!!

It's probrably nothing to worry about. Just weird. Probrably some noise from the heat... causing the incubator to expand or shrink or something. I wouldn't worry.

Your temps are fine. High temps do speed up the process but not enough to have them hatch twice as fast!

Your chicks will be fine if they hatch a few days sooner. I have had hatches start on day 18/19 and the chicks are fine and are now chickens running around the yard. I run my temps a tad high. I use still air and keep mine at 102/103 (or try to! lol).

People always think that it HAS to be at 99.5 for fan, and HAS to be at 102 for still air... there is a art to hatching. As long as your temps don't go WAY high or low (and even sometimes if they do) you will be fine. I have had them at 112F while I was out (for about 6 hours) and still had 100% hatch.

Point is. Don't worry. You're doing good.

Messing with the incubator will kill them ALOT faster than if you just left it. Normal tempature fluctuations are completely normal. If it gets to 104 or higher, take the lid off for a few moments (use this time to check the water.... no water will make the temp spike), then just put the lid back on... don't adjust it. Check back in a hour... if it is going back up to 104 or what it was... then adjust it... SLIGHTLY. Check back again in another hour. Should be right.

You are doing good! Keep it up!
