Just candled! Yay! Weird noises?

I cannot imagine what the scratchy sound is but I do not see how it could be the eggs.

My hatches always seem to come a little early, and although I lose one once in a while after hatch, it is not very common.

Sadly, they are more likely to die from an accident than from unknown causes. Like when I put the water bottle on one.

A few weeks ago I was reading a chicken magazine and they said that the mother hen "talks" to her developing eggs and they talk back. That way she knows which ones are developing faster than others and then moves them to the outside to cool down and let the others catch up. I have never hatched eggs (yet) and have no idea at what stage they start to "talk" back to mommy, but I found that to be fascinating. And people think chickens are dumb. Silly them. They have no idea.

Good luck with your hatch. And maybe they were talking to you.

About two days before they hatch they will chirp... in the egg. It is by far my favorite part of hatching! Chirping eggs!

How cool is that. I have got to convince DH to let me buy in incubator. I have the hens and the roos so I am pretty sure my eggs are fertile. I see the little bulls eye in them. None of my hens seem to want to go broody so it is up to me. But DH thinks I am crazy, and I am. I will admit it. But I like little baby things.

And it looks like fun. Could this be the beginning of an addiction?
