Just Completed Our New Chicken Coop

Maybe I spoke too soon? On the new photos, it appears that the gap between the coop sides and rafters is wide open? That is good for ventilation, but not so good if you have climbing predators and most of us do. You would be amazed at what could get through an opening that size and how fast they can kill every bird in your flock if/when they do. You may want to consider cutting and fitting 1/2" hardware cloth over those openings.

But that is still a nice coop.

We have already installed hardware cloth in all the rafter openings, the photos are from before we were 100% complete. :) We took no chances, everything that was open has been sealed and stapled down with hardware cloth.

That is really nice, I just love it. Beautifully done!
Congratulations, I'm sure your flock will love their new home.

What are the foot print dimensions of the coop itself and the run(feet by feet)?

Do they also free range?

Those supply shelves (in what looks like part of the run?)..... you might want to hang a curtain over them so they are not tempted to fly up there.

The coop dimensions are 9' wide (including roof overhangs) X 42" deep. The coop is 48" high from the floor to the back top of wall X 42" deep X 48" wide. Curtains across the shelves is a great idea, although they are higher than they appear and my girls are not flyers. The front is 7' 6" high and the rear wall is 6'6" high with the sloped roof. Our girls are free range every day, the auto door opens at 6 am & closes at 9 pm daily. The run is 7' long, but narrow due to the space we had to work with, hence the larger under-coop area. :)

So inside of coop itself is about 6' x 6'?

The "porch area" is pretty spacious. The entire back wall measures 9'6" wide by 6' tall and there is a 6" rise due to the cinderblock base, which was placed on a 4" deep sand base for leveling. Hardware cloth was also put on the dirt before the sand was added around the perimeter to keep critters from crawling underneath.
