Just curious who else is living super frugal

You could try planning your family's menu every week/month/bi-weekly, whatever works best and use that to shop for. It sounds like you're doing everything you can already

I plan a month of meals, cook a weeks worth in a day so I can use things like a whole turkey or ham or beef roast for many meals. With being on disability from a bad car accident I cant stand for to long and thank god for my older kids who help out a lot since dad left. I freeze a lot of meals so all they have to do is grab out of the freezer and bake till hot. Did I forget to mention how great my kids are

I googled it and it is a "food rescue" program in my area. Day old bakery stuff, dairy stuff just past date, industrial size cans of stuff donated, and other type of stuff I think

This is the best time of year to stock up! This last week I got 260 cans of chili, soups and ravioli at 69 cents a can you can not go wrong! . Its the best time of year to buy turkeys and freeze them, to get those extra's to make good meals all thru the year. Every year I find turkeys so cheap I buy 6 or more. I get extra dressings, and all the fixings for when there is special days . It's how you shop, where you can find sales and buy in bulk. This month I am working on getting the family things they need and we can use to survive on in case of power outages etc. Sleeping bags for all, ( mummy bags) and emergency packs filled with new socks, a new change of warm clothing, flint, alcohol stove etc. It's more of a " things we need Christmas" not a frivolous Christmas this year. Give the gift of warmth, wool socks, a lamp and fuel, blankets and comforters. My family will be getting these items. No more needless gifts !
Parents getting same like items, lamps with fuel, and warm blankets!

I didn't look at the link so if you already have an answer sorry. Gleaning is done in areas that have big farmlands that harvest w/ harvesting machines. They almost always (at least in our area) allow people to come in and harvest after their tractors have been through. You can harvest what the tractors missed and the edges where the tractors can't reach. Everything you harvest is yours for free.

There are turkeys on sale in the grocery store in my area as cheap as $6.00. I really don't eat turkey but after remembering this thread, I decided to buy some. It was a 2 turkey limit. I will go back and get 2 more. There was also a sale on hens for as low as $4.00. I also couldn't resist. I did buy 2 hens.

I only eat my roosters and NEVER my hens, so I couldn't resist the price. A hen in the store in my area is as much as $12.00. Will probably stock up on canned goods while they are on sale.
