We keep ours in good working order. First, I HATE washing dishes, and second...in the long run, it saves us money. I pack that sucker full and overall it uses less water than if I were doing it by hand. I often keep the cycle to one wash and rinse and never, ever use the "dry" function.
Just curious who else is living super frugal

I miss my dishwasher but since it's only me here now, it's not a huge deal. I do miss it on canning days though. It was so nice just to run them in there and pull them out steaming hot instead of sterilizing them with the oven or boiling water.
Yeah, for just one person, you'd need to have a lot of dishes to get enough to fill it up, LOL.
I am going to Joann's Fabrics tomorrow to get wool yarn to try this. I like the idea of adding oil essence to add scent to the laundry. I make laundry detergent with Zote or Fels Naptha, whatever I can get my hands on, and rinse in vinegar. These balls should work just like dryer sheets. Can't wait to try it.

I'm not sure if this is me being frugal or insane. I am getting 2 pregnant goats tomorrow. $100 for both of them which I think is pretty cheap. Its 2 ladies they got a bit over excited about goats and kept all the babies from their over excitement and then found out that its a TON of goats to care for. So they were pretty excited to part with these gals to someone local before even more babies came. They probably had 20 pregnant females they were trying to care for along with 2 rams. A bit insane. So hopefully by Christmas I can reduce the amount I am paying for milk and kefir and yogurt ( half a fortune). Very excited.
I am also looking at doing a bit of crafting. I have been a tough over stressed for forever now and was thinking maybe a calming hobby would help. You know something just for me and for no other reason than I enjoy it. Well I like making felt ornaments and such and was thinking about doing more. Got the idea offline to remake old sweaters and such into pillows and ornaments . A bit of applique and beading and its something lovely. I am waiting a couple weeks till Hospice has a bag sale and then i am going to pick out some clothing that is just begging to be remade into something pretty. I might even make some Christmas gifts while I am at it. Save a bit of Christmas money that way.
On that theme start thinking about Christmas. I start in October and start putting a bit away each pay check to pay for an all cash Christmas. I don't take cards with me so there is no temptation and I have a shopping list that stays in the budget I set. Christmas is so much more enjoyable when there is not a dreaded bill coming in afterwards.

Very cool about your bred nannies, congratulations!!! Never had goat kefir or yogurt that I can remember, only milk and cheese. I'm sure it's great though.
If you're looking for a craft idea to beat stress, Lydia took up knitting to keep her mind off the pain she has. She says it's "...a great way to practice 'mindfullness'". It helps her, and we all get warm goodies for Christmas! Win/Win!
I had this great budget-stretching idea last night, but, like most of my thoughts, it died of loneliness before I could get it out. We're very tired. We harvested 6 turkeys and have them resting in the fridge now. Maybe young punks can do that without batting an eye, but for us old(er) gimps IT'S HARD WORK!!!

We save water AND energy by cleaning our dishes with the 'Hot Water' method. Whenever we're finished eating, we simply put our dishes on the floor, and holler, "Come on Hot Water, come on boy!" He comes a-runnin' and boy does he lick those dishes clean! No electricity, no metered water! Ready to use again!

I had a friend once with a deaf dog and she used the "hoover" method. If she dropped something on the floor she'd yell HOOVER and stomp the floor by it. Never had to stomp twice!

The goats are nigerians. We had a friend who is experienced with goats take a look. He said one of them he is not positive on, he thinks she might be but we shall see. The other he said is very pregnant( he is putting a bet on twins but could be a third). She sorta walks funny even at this point. She is as wide as she is tall right now. It looks horribly uncomfortable, so we probably have less than a month to get ready. We are getting a separate kidding stall prepped this week.
I have tried knitting. Didn't know I could draw blood trying to knit but it is possible. I might try again. Its been 10 years since the last go, i might be a bit more patient by now, you would think with age comes patience but it hasn't happened yet. I am setting myself a goal of hand making an entire tree worth of ornaments and doing it on the cheap. I think it will be a rewarding challenge and sewing little ornaments always has been relaxing in the past.
