Just curious who else is living super frugal

We don't have cable as an option at our place, it just isn't economical for the company to run 7 miles of cable down our road that only has 5 houses on it, and only have 1 connect. Satellite internet is too expensive for the speeds you get; we had HughesNet for a while, but after a couple of months the speeds got so slow that we called and complained, they switched us but in a couple of months the speeds dropped again. For the price, it wasn't worth the headaches.

We now use Verizon for our cell phones and internet. One of the things we checked as we were looking at houses was the cellphone reception. We are amazed that we get 4G with Data here, most of the houses we looked at in the country got 3G or even no cell service at all. The nice thing with this set-up is that it is not tied to home. Since it uses the cell towers, we can take it with us on vacation. And can still connect to the internet - as long as we have service - with our own secure and private connection.

we didnt have a computer in the house till i was a junior in high school i am fine,

edited because i had more to say :p I have never owned a cell phone , it's kinda weird to me that everybody has one, my wife will ask me to do something on her phone and I can't even get past the first screen lol, maybe not having a computer stunted my growth technologically . We cant get cable either :p but who needs it.

we just bought a little projector that comes in a box for her cell phone. its cardboard and needs assembled, it has real glass lenses and is supposed to project the magnified image and amplify the sound without power. can't wait to put it together and try it out

When I started college, it was rare to find anyone with their own personal computer in their room. We used the ones in the library and homework was submitted handwritten on paper. By the time I graduated, almost everyone had their own pc.

Well, that was weird, your edit came up in my quote as I was submitting my comment!

Computers are great, ain't they?

im pretty young still, so almost everybody I know has had a computer in the house nearly there entire life( it doesnt help I am the oldest of my friends) . seems like you couldnt go to college anymore without your own laptop, In school I would chicken peck the keyboard slowly eeking out my papers in the computer lab, I only typed the ones I absolutely had to . ugh. I have gotten a bit better,

I have a pay as you go cell. I pay 100 dollars a year and probably use about 80 percent of it. I use it to let family know where I am...

I worked in technology for a major cellphone manufacturing corporation and never had a cell. We are talking from Brick to Satellite.... And I remember when you had to extend an antenna to improve the reception.

I cant even go cellular at my house... No reception... something to do with HUGE BOULDERS... LOL.

So internet for me will be Satellite.

My kids learn keyboarding startin in kindergarden. Fun games on line in the tech room that is set up with 30+ PC's . THey get a short lecture and using power point, the teacher quickly explains what game they will be playing and how to boot up, which icon to click on the desk top. Heck these kids get good at it.

My kids did not have computer games at home and they are definitely at a disadvantage so they go to friends houses to play, and get keybording practice for their papers. Oldest has a paper due this week and it must be typed.

IF you want to get better, put your fingerin in the correct typing position and yes it will still be pecking out one character at a time, BUT you will be learning muscle memory and your typing will improve and go faster.

In HS many many years ago I took typing so I could type my papers instead of my mother. Had my own typewriter in college to type up all my papers. No PC's then. NONE. THe internet was just beginning, and a couple brothers tried to expalin it to me as they "spoke" with friends at other univeristyies,a nd I really thought they were just joshing me. lol Haahaa the joke was on me. With the internet I Think I have learned more than what 4 years of college gave me.

Depends on the carrier. WIth my flip phone I have spotty coverage and when I get down by the bridge the call drops. Very different with my other phone ( with a different carrier); the phone works if only one bar at times.
