Just curious who else is living super frugal

Day before yesterday my dishwasher stopped working. I was canning and preparing home made meals for hubby to take to work. I ended up with a ton of dishes before realizing the dishwasher was not working. I tried to get them done, but by this morning, the kitchen was a disaster (repairman is here now).

I remember growing up in England. My grandparents and parents had an outhouse for several years (you didn't use the loo after dark!). I remember bathing in a galvanized tub in front of the fireplace; water heated on a gas stove. I was seven before my mom got an electric washing machine; and she had one of those old fashioned mangle things to squeeze water out of the clothes, then she hung them outside on a line to dry. She had an iron that you put on the coal oven top to get hot. The coal kitchen oven also heated the water heater.

My, what luxuries we have today

I've never owned a dishwasher, nor has my mother. She and I both still have outhouses too!

Some of us still don't have TOO many luxuries but, then, I still count running water, electricity, hot showers and washing machines as luxuries while everyone sees them as necesseties.

An extra way to save on Soda's is to bring them with you. My husband allows him self a 12 pack. I also buy bottled waters. He usually will take one of each. The bottle he can refil at work and it helps make sure he gets enough water instead of all sugary drinks. He also has those ramen soup bowls or pasta bowls in his desk drawer for the days he forgets or runs out of time for a home made lunch.

That sounds very relaxing and soothing to me.

Until you have to empty it afterwards

Empty it? Who said anything about emptying it afterwards? Use it for about a week before you empty. We are talking about being "super frugal" right? Ya gotta start somewhere. "Reduce, Re-use and Recycle".

Hmm was dishes in it first, then bath, then the laundry, then the dogs and finally use it to water your plants.....hehe.

I do love Craigslist! We bought DD a new bike two years ago. She's really only rode it this past year, though. The darn tires dry rotted even though it had been cared for and not left outside when not in use. It had white tires and since we've heard of others having the same issue with those types of tires. So it would cost almost $60.00 to replace the each tube and each tire. That's almost a new bike! We thought we may end up buying a brand new one for her birthday since she loves to ride. Hubby had checked out the dump for black bike tires, but hadn't found any. BTW, we don't have trash pick up. So we have to take our trash to the dump. Thankfully, this momma thought we should check out Craigslist before splurging. We found her a nice bike for $15.00 -- with black tires! She and hubby went and picked it up tonight. I do love being frugal and Craigslist! : )

I have never owned a dishwasher either (My mother does). I do not however have an outhouse. Wish I did. I can just picture it in my yard...I live on the corner by the post office.
