Started at 5am finished cleaning up at 11.15 am. Processed 500 cornish x at 5 weeks of age. Average dressed weight was 4.82 pounds.

This is the first batch adding enzymes to our regular supplemented feed mixture. Average feed consumption was 7.4 pounds of this new mixture, 1.34 pounds less than the previous mix.

Total cost of each bird (less labor) was $2.59 each including costs of shrink bags used to package them.

This is our first year using grains we raised last year and grinding and blending our own feeds. Next year we hope to buy a pellet mill.

Our hope is to expand into producing a complete cornish x broiler feed free of chemicals, preservatives and drugs of any sort. There are so many broiler recipes out there that are cheap but empty of real nutrient content. We want to offer high quantity nutrient rich broiler feed.

that is awesome .. i wish hubby wasn't so kind hearted sometimes.. and i know i can't kill them.. wish he would. then i would get lots of meat birds. if he would cull them i could clean them.. just the break my heart part i can't do.. yet

Wow, that is a lot of work!! We did 18, last weekend - our first batch- and once we got in the groove it took about 15 minutes/bird with two of us.
Interesting on the feed. I bet they'll be tasty!

Wow! I am impressed by the sheer volume. I can only imagine the pile of feathers and feet!

I got BIG growth on my meat birds by putting a flake of leafy alfalfa into their pen, adding a handful of cottonseed meal daily to the feed and supplying pigeon grit. Something about all the added protein at the right calcium/phosphorus ratios.... and it cost like next to nothing as I had the hay on hand for the goats.

Wish I had kept as accurate records like you! I just know that the added growth really screwed up my turkey orders.... had to phone folks and suggest hens as opposed to the ordered toms as they were ahead on growth and going to be 31-lb. fresh at Thanksgiving. (Seriously....my personal turkey that year was 32 lbs. and barely cleared the oven...I had to get up at dawn to put it in to roast)

Congrats on filling your freezer with tasty eats!

You did 500 birds in 6 hours??!!

You must either be awesome, or had a ton of people. We take almost that long to do 75!
