First, thank you to all who guessed about Clovis!
I'll post what he is tomorrow. (Sorry for being slow in returning to the forum; I was travelling for the last couple days and away from the computer.)
Meanwhile:
Nobody so far has made a correct guess!
When Clovis was hatched, I did not own any Rhode Island Reds, Leghorns, red sex links, or gold sex links. I did own Buff Orpington hens, but the male offspring of those hens with Clovis's father (my only rooster) looked distinctly and recognizably different. Those orpington-cross offspring had much smaller combs and blockier bodies.
Hint #1: Neither of Clovis's parents had even one white feather.
Hint #2: Clovis's mother (who went broody twice in one year) is of a breed which is consistently labelled in every reference source as NOT being broody.
More hints tonight...
