Just found eggs???

The Easter egg is very skittish even hard to get a photo so finding where she lay's her eggs is likely going to be challenge...perhaps should suggest it's Easter and have the neighbors kids hunt for eggs on the lot...they could find them :-)...only I know there are rattlesnakes here so I think the egg hunt will have to wait till winter sets in for sure.

Took a few moments to lookup easter egger and agree she looks like an Americana breed. I have an appointment so will be gone a few hours...talk back later..Larry

I'm keeping an eye out for the location of the Easter Egger roost site...figure she will likely lay near where she roosts.

I'm not positive, but I don't agree. She will find a dark cozy spot, true? Why do you think she will lay near where she sleeps?

And if there are snakes, they could be helping themselves to an egg dinner. You may be searching for naught.

Beautiful girls! Your Easter Egger looks like my Sassy! My sister calls her mouse because of her gray tail feathers and yes, for some reason my EEs are more skittish than my other girls.

Well, I found where she roosts...about 20 feet up in a tree, on some limbs that form bows of the tree...It could even be the hen has a nest up there and no eggs will be recovered in such a case...she has sufficient lift to fly onto a low branch (about 8-10 off the ground, then one more lift about 8 feet to another branch then walk over a few limbs to some bows where she clucks her approval and beds down for the night...
Now with all the delight of safety it could be said I will have a difficult time getting her into a coop and even more problems getting her to stay in a coop unless I cut wings which I won't.
I do have one gift in my favor...she (we call her ivy-don't ask why...I don't know) Ivy likes Fancy as there ever waking time is spent in each others company. Fancy does not nest in trees and stays low to the ground...she lets us pet her and over time may be able to pick her up...therefor could transport into a coop...if Ivy finds her (Fancy) in a coop she may join her...giving me a chance to lock her in to train her to a coop. Otherwise I don't know how it can go...
Freedom will always dominate more so with animals that perhaps have know little else... Obviously she once was a domestic so from a coop environment. This could be one for you Ridgerunner as your evaluation of Fancies behavior was spot on the money...Larry

Chickens are ground nesters, so you probably won't find a nest up that tree! More likely under a bush or in some weeds. Chickens will make a clucking sound called an "egg song" when they lay an egg. (youtube it!) so you can try to listen for that and try to see where she comes from at that time...hunting for hidden eggs can be a wild goose chase! Good luck!

I enjoy learning new things everyday...glad to hear chickens are ground layers...was worried about trying to fetch eggs from on high :-) I would never thought to look so high into a tree and didn't think a hen would go to such heights...but seeing is believing and she showed me how it was done. I don' claim to know much about chickens and consider this a solid learning experience.
