Hi there we just found out we may have a roo in our mix of 16 chickens ...not sure if this is a good thing or bad? I thought it maybe a male since he has more combs on him then the others and he tends to be more aggresive not in a bad way but when you go to pick up one of the girls he/she will come running and today when I went to put the water back in he/she nipped me lol IF it is a roo is there a way to make it where it is friendly and not aggresive? TY for any tips

Last spring one of my EE pullets started crowing at 9 weeks of age and has crowed every day since. It was about that time he, Edgar, started getting very upset when I took the others out of their temporary pen to clean it and would be frantic if his favorite EE pullet was not in the same cat carrier with him. I made it a point to handle him daily until their coop was finished 2 weeks later. Over the winter he had to have 2 sudsy baths when a hen plucked his butt to the point he was covered in blood. Bathing him was not too bad, drying however took a long time. Good news? It took the edge right off his attitude! The only times he has challenged me out right has been when I have brought 2 hens back after isolating them for feather plucking. The whole pecking order of the flock changed each time and Ed had to test me by hopping up and down in front of me. I made sure he was the one to get out of my way and not the other way around. Still it felt pretty silly arguing with a 7 pound rooster. Other than some attitude adjustments he has been an excellent guard rooster for the hens.
