Hi all! Well, I was born and raised in NYC, followed my passion for art, and ended up landing my dream job...in Kansas. Following the old motto, "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em," I now live in a mid-century modern house with my soon-to-be husband and our old, deaf greyhound, Huck. Apparently, our existing hobbies--knitting, board games, brewing, gardening--weren't enough, so we're now parents to six nearly month-old chickens. We've got two RIRs (one of which may be a rooster, but more about that in another thread), two Red Sex Links, and two mystery pullets (again, more about that in another thread).

We've been overwhelmed with enthusiasm from friends and co-workers here in Kansas; friends have already started giving us empty egg cartons, despite the fact that it'll be a while before we have any homegrown products to fill them with. But I'm sure we'll have lots of questions and thought this would be a supportive community to ask when they inevitably arise (e.g., we start building our coop this weekend...). So, hi!
