I'm building my coop and run now to get ready to start with chicks in the spring. I hope to learn from others as I get started and be able to help others after a while. I plan on a small flock of about 6-8 to get started--the coop is 60 SF, so I've got room to expand. Just looking for fresh eggs. We live on 28 acres--with a wildlife management plan in place. I started gardening during covid and have gone kind of crazy with that. I now have well over 4,000 SF in a variety of beds under cultivation. Also building a potting shed/greenhouse. When I say "I'm building"--I mean my friend, an uber-handyman, is building... ;-) I have a friend who lives here in a small separate apartment--she does a LOT of the daily work in the garden, otherwise I couldn't manage it all. I still work full-time at a non-profit--which I love--but I'm looking forward to retirement in probably 5 years or so to have more time with gardening and critters. My friend Ellie's family raised chickens as a child, so I expect to rely heavily on her knowledge. Wish I had started all this when we moved here over 20 years ago.
