Hi my name is Linda. My daughter Allie bought an incubator and now has me excited to have my own chickens. We are starting with quail while we pick out our perfect coops and run. Including my husband & myself my oldest daughter Megan lives with us as well as her 5 kids. We all love taking care of animals and I believe this will be a great learning experience for the grgrandkids.
We have been researching local ordinances. It says 4 to 6 chickens depending on family size. Of course we are going to add 1 or 2 chickens at a time for meat. We are also looking for blueprints for the coop & run that works best for us. I have a set of blueprints but it seems the coop & run will be too big so the search continues.

Hello Linda, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

Your perfect coop and run are ones you build. There are really no pre-fab coops that are worth the money. And the vast majority of them are far, FAR too small for the number of birds they claim they can house, are built from the cheapest materials around and are horribly designed. You need to remember that you need huge amounts of ventilation. As in many sq ft of permanently open ventilation, not sq inches. Do your research and build something proper. Also, consider converting an old shed or outbuilding into a coop. It take a lot of the work out of it.
