Hello. My husband and I are just getting started. His grandparents had chickens and we always got fresh brown eggs from them. We are missing those and decided to start are our own layers. Drawing up coop designs and figuring out what we need. Any advise is welcome. Found this site on a search and kept coming back to it. Very Helpful. Thanks.

rule of thumb is 4 sg.feet per bird in the coop and 10 sg.feet per bird in the outside run. If you live in a horrible, winter climate area, you may want a bigger coop. When chickens have to be confined/crowded for long periods they get bored and start feather picking and worse, on each other.
