Got my first hens about 12 weeks ago and I'm guessing they were a few weeks old so they should be about 15-16 weeks old. About a month ago I also bought two hens that were already laying and two roosters. We are fairly new to raising chickens so not sure if im using the correct terms for hens chickens lol. I plan on buying at least 6 more that are ready to lay this Sunday because we just aren't getting enuf with just two laying. I'm look on this website often for info and help because we don't know too much, like even what types of chickens we have.

Hello everyone, my name is Pat and I am a chicken addict, or hoarder. My husband bought 10 to start with and the next few trips to coop and TS forced me to save all I could from the parents buying as Easter pets. We are up to 61, various varieties and no idea how many Roos. Love my chick chicks.

At 16 weeks, you are most likely 2-4 weeks away from them starting to lay depending upon the breed. If they are production layers, sooner. If they are dual purpose birds it will be a bit longer. Me?, I would never buy mature hens and try to blend them into a flock. There are inherent risks not knowing the health and care of the new birds. Why risk everyone coming down with a cough or snots or even death? How do you know that they aren't passing off spent or mostly spent layers? I would buy a few more dozen eggs from the grocery store and wait.

Yes, chickens are HIGHLY addicting!! And as far as I know, there is NO cure except MORE CHICKENS!!!!

Oh, and let me tell you something.....BYC is just as addicting, if not WORSE!
