Just got Busted by my local Fire Department

We had a big bombfire on the 4th of July we always do it every year no prob. Then one year the neighbors with the "extended nose disease" called in on us prob because we threw a couple of those HUGE packs of black cats in there and they were going for almost 10 minutes and some gas to get it going and anyway about 4 firetrucks pulled in our driveway and put it out and told us not to set anymore fireworks off and here we spent about $200 on fireworks put together (everyone brings a bag or more) so when they left we just started setting them off again don't see why not we live OUT of city limits.

I'm glad we don't have a problem. We can have a fire any day or night. Fireworks too. The farmers will go on alert for the fireworks though. OUr landlord drove down on his 4-Wheeler to watch tom ake srue his field didn't go up in flames. He had no problem with it either and was very friendly, just keeping an eye on his investment. Can't blame him there.

Similiar note, you can't keep a bat in your car if it is for protection (concealed weapon?) but you can keep it in your car if you say you play baseball occasionally.

Some friends in Texas burned nearly 16 acres of their ranch- they live way outside the city- and someone set off fireworks. In July, the ground and brush are really dry and go up in flames fast. That's why they said no more fireworks to you guys.
And please don't pour gas on a lit fire! It can travel upstream to you.

Dogginfox, you're right, city code sometimes is a real pain. We moved to get away from it- and now the town is growing and the want to set up codes!

Have you tried any of that stuff that is supposed to rot stumps out fast?

We are allowed to burn here in our county (Harris County, Texas) but you have to pay attention and not burn during a burn ban. We have burn bans if there has not been any rain. Did you get a fine?
They roared down my driveway two months ago while I was burning durning a burn ban (I didnt check to see if it was a burn ban) and threatened to give me a ticket. Luckily they allowed me to put it out myself.

This Happened in Georgia.

Last summer I went to the FD to tell them I was going to be cooking a Pig and they acted like I was being overly cautious by informing them. The fire for the pig was going for over 24hrs and I had no problems.

I didnt get a fine but they did take down my drivers license info??

How am i supposed to get rid of stumps in my yard if i cant burn them? Im definatly not going to break my back digging them up

This reminds me to be thankful that I live miles from the nearest town.

please dont knock the fire dept... its just our job. millions of dollars a year and countless man hours are spent putting out "just a backyard burn pile" that turned into giant brush fires. look at cali and florida last year. you may be a responsible person but not everyone is... contact your local fd or forrestry dept about burning brush and such, sometimes all it takes is a burn permit.

ETA: dogginfox that was probably for the report only... gotta love all the paperwork

On the one hand, burning is a convenient way to dispose of brush, but still...
Georgia has a state wide burn ban all summer because the smog is so bad. We've had code orange and code yellow smog alert days every day of June already and some of May. Even before it hits code yellow, my asthma gets going and I have to stay indoors (part of the reason I can't hold a job anymore). Don't even get me started on smoke.
And already, even though we don't have a drought anymore, several burn piles have turned into raging brush fires in our neighborhood this spring. Someone even burned up his neighbors camper.
I don't know what we're going to do with the 3 huge brush piles needing disposal. Can't burn if I want to keep breathing. Costs too much to rent one of those big chippers - and dangerous. That leaves hauling off at $15 per pickup truck load to the local inert landfill. Any suggestions?

First off it's "Bonfire" not "Bombfire" I snorted hot tea when I read that! I could complain about some bombs being on fire.

I have a burn permit, but I have a neighbor a few acres over who doesn't like me. It's gotten to where I call in my permit, tell them I'm going to be burning for awhile and the neighbor should be calling in a few minutes. Sure enough, the dispatcher calls me and says "Hey Kat, your house on fire? No,,, Your coop on fire? no.... cool!" Then we hang up and I hollar over really loudly "Dispatch says hi!!!" About 20 minutes later they call back, "your house on fire? no,, K,, " then the deputy shows up at the neighbors and tells them to knock off the BS calls.
