Just got my first quail eggs!!!!!!

I also got my quail eggs on ebay from North Dakota and they hatched yesterday/today!! I have read that a 50% hatch rate is good when hatching eggs that have been shipped. So far out of the 20 eggs that I ordered 9 have hatched, so pretty close to the 50% mark. Yes when you order eggs online you want them to set at about 66 degrees(or room temp is what I did) for 12-24 hours. Good luck with your hatch & keep us posted!
Ummmmm. Is that the "norm"???

I woke up to this little guy this morning!

My first quails hatched today! I have 10 thus far and they aren't even due until tomorrow. Should I take the chicks out now or wait until tomorrow? They are running around like crazy, knocking over the unhatched eggs.

locallmotion, some will tell you to leave 'em in, that they won't harm the other eggs. Some people will take them out right away each time one hatches, which can compromise the rest of the hatch if the incubator is opening and closing all day long.

Here's my approach. I remove *dry* chicks from the incubator twice a day--morning and evening. In my experience, chicks left in an incubator more than 12-24 hours start wreaking havoc--sitting on eggs and preventing them hatching, playing with the thermostat wafer (not so much quail babies--they're too tiny to reach!), getting trapped in/on/behind things, etc. It won't hurt the eggs to open the incubator quickly a couple times a day, especially because the hatching chicks are creating tons of humidity in there. IF you're concerned about humidity (for instance, if you've had a hard time keeping it up during lockdown), you can put a bottle of warm water next to the incubator before you open it, and spritz the eggs gently after *quickly* removing the babies.

I keep everything I need--a box for the babies, spritzer, warm water to refill containers & sponges & etc, and a bag or box for broken shells--right next to the incubator so I can do it all in a matter of seconds. While removing the young, I also remove empty shells to maintain a tidier environment for the remaining eggs.

Congrats on your hatch!! So very exciting. :)

Thank you so much for that information! I took the chicks out this morning and they are doing great! I haven't had anything else to hatch today...I am still hopeful that the rest will hatch. My babies are so cute! I will have to put a picture up!
