Just got my R-Com 20 Pro 2Day! How do I save eggs.........

Thanks Twigg! I am new to this and have benn following alot of posts for info. I have my hubby convinced that I am only going to have three or four chickens but I have my eye on a couple of silkies and marans and polish...UHGGG! I am soo addicted an I am still building my coop! And Sticks22 COngrats on the incubator..Good Luck!

Thanks ALL! Lots of imfo but Im sure Ill have more questions and comments as the hatch progresses!

I know that some of you wish you could buy an r-com. I am really glad I did! The size of it was really alot bigger than I thought it would be. the length is about the same as my keyboard and almost as wide as it is long. It plays short musical tunes also, which is cool!

Stay tuned in about a month when Ill show you my RIR chicks. Theres a GOOD chance that theyll be mixed with dominique also! I even have a buttercup female that may also be crossed with dominique and RIR blood as well!

STAY TUNED!

When you get the PC printouts, can you post them here so we can take a look?

If ya can't, then send it to me and I'll incubate a batch and post the results

This isn't something that many people would advise. The eggs need different incubation conditions during the last three days and that can't be achieved using this method.

Hello TWIGG,
well I’m sorry to hear this , but my last 2 batches of 24 chicken eggs ea .this pass 3 months had a live count of 20 the 1st. and 18 the 2nd. hatchings chicks and i only use one bator w/ an egg turner , yes I only place 3 to 4 of the eggs trays in the turner on one side when the 18 day comes around I take the egg out from the turner and place on the side with no egg trays turning yes most of the time it only take me 3-4 days to pick what eggs I want to be hatch so with in that time period plus a day or two more from hatching date there all out of the turner and place to the empty side then the egg turner comes out . my temp stays at 99.6 to 100.4 the whole hatching period . so maybe this can't be achieved using this method. But it sure works for me. In the last year being in this hobby I try to hatch eggs , I have try different ways before , by the book,, -from the internet web sites ,- and also from advice from others , and I never did get the amount of hatch chicks from the same amount of placement eggs in the bator before it would be 3-6 out of 24 eggs . So I try a few different things each time ,some work better some not I came up with this and now at lease I’m getting 90% plus hatching rates , so like I said it works for me , why - not sure ......maybe it’s not suppose to ----- but it does and has for me that’s why I gave this advice and stated it works for me .

Thanks
Al.

Oh I wasn't actually criticizing you

My comment was simply stating what is generally regarded to be "best practise".

In the end, eggs prove to be fairly resilient, so we do things we might not otherwise.

On the other hand, large scale incubators get hatch rates of 95% plus, and I would favour aiming for this "Gold Standard" by giving then every chance possible.

If we advise people to follow best practises, then they are, as you are, able to decide where and when to vary them. At least then they have some idea of where to start looking if things don't go to plan.

YES I WILL AGREE , as with raiseing chickens and turkeys and one of my other my other hobby s keep and raise Koi sometime things don't go as plan or as some people do advice , the best thing I found is the 3 L's ....look -listen and learn and do lots and lots of research .....................................OH BY THE WAY NICE COOP AND BATOR

Well, I guess I am just lazy. I will blame it on the hens though (lol). I leave all my eggs in the nests for at least a week, then go gather them and put them in the bator. Actually they probably stay for 8 days, cuz I leave 1 egg in each nest. I have a few that absolutely WILL NOT lay in an empty nest. So like I said, I'll blame it on them! So far, I have one hatch that had 12 out of 14 good eggs hatch, so I guess this works.
