& congratulations on your new babies.

The "Californian" is probably a "California White" and your "Americaunas" are most likely Easter Eggers ~ a mixed breed chicken which lays colored eggs. EE's are very nice to have.

Thanks for the mention of the "Americauna." After a couple of hours reading through the distinguishing posts... I definitely have EE's. I'm excited to see how they grow up! There are 3, and the smallish one came home and had a mucky butt. After I cleaned her off, she's dried herself nicely and no new issues since. I'm glad I've been reading BYC and knew what to do when I noticed she couldn't poop!

I told my husband it looked like an ink pen exploded on them! LOL We only brought ours home yesterday and they are very young. I wouldn't say they are friendly yet, but they'll get that way, I think. We are chicken bribers. We have no problems trading treats for love. LOL

This is what I found at Ideal Hatchery.
California Whites are a breed cross of Production Blacks and White Leghorns. They have superior hybrid vigor, which results in excellent livability. They are excellent layers of smooth textured white eggs and are known as efficient producers for an extended period of time.

The mature weight of this cross is 4.5 pounds, which is heavier than most commercial white egg layers.

I think California Whites are not only cute little yellow chicks, but they grow up to be such gorgeous ladies! Looks like you have a lovely little bunch!

Congrads!!!! on your new chicks

I have to say I love my easter eggers/americanuas/aracounas they add alot of color to the flock. It's always a surprise to go egg gathering you never know what you will find...some lay green, blue and I have some that lay pink eggs too. But remember one chick will only lay one color they don't change colors as far as I have seen or read.

I have to say I googled the "californian" and am looking forward to seeing yours grow up...I hope you post more pics along the way.

Good Luck and enjoy!!!
