So I ran into a guy at the flea market a couple of weekends ago who was buying a nest box; he was hobbit sized so I helped him get the thing into his SUV. We started talking about chickens and it turns out that he raises AC's and he offered me some eggs. I picked them up on Saturday morning and stored them big end up for a day, then popped them into the incubator.

I'm very hopeful.

His rooster was curious but imposing, so inky black that it looked like it was absorbing light. The hens followed him like a string of ducklings, hoping for treats.

I'm praying for a good hatch rate!

Day 7, I candled and saw vein and embryo development in 11 out the 12. The 12th had a shell too dark to see through. The other 2 eggs, from the Leghorn and from my gray Ameracaunas, are also developing nicy. I'm sick with anticipation!

That dark egg is probably in good development, had same situation with GLW egg, couldn't see anything but it hatched.
