If I hadn't walked outside when I did I believe that I would have at least one dead or injured duck. It swooped down while they were in their pool and then landed in a tree. I heard the ducks make surprised noises and then I ran out into the yard and herded them into their covered run. When I came back inside I watched the hawk swoop down to try and attack them in the run. Fortunately it's covered on all sides with hardware cloth and it couldn't get to them. Talk about giving me a heart attack though. My ducks have been outside since early March and this is the first time I've seen that happen. I guess I've been lucky.

It's time to invest in some bird netting.

We had a close call a few weeks back, I wonder if they are starting to migrate or is it still too early? Glad your ducks are safe and no one got hurt or killed.

It's rough to discover that all the bases aren't covered, but I am glad your ducks are okay. There are just some risks out there, a little different for different people. We do what we know to do, make some choices . . .
