Just had rangers processed...wow!

I understand you wanting to be thorough, but for $4 I built a drill mounted plucker that will do a bang up job on a chicken in under 5 minutes. Build a plucker, get the bulk of teh feathers of with that, then get picky. I can't understand taking more than 5-10 minute on a bird at most for plucking. Evisceration takes but a minute or two. Worst case, 12 minutes a bird, 5 birds an hour, $20 an hour. Taking any longer just doesn't make sense to me.

The one we had last night was 5 1/4 pounds, dressed. I was looking for a smaller one to give to my Mom...I looked through a lot of birds before I found one much smaller. and a good number bigger.

? Where did you get them? I'd like to see what they look like!

I got them from JM Hatchery. I have pictures of them, if I can figure out how to get them posted...I've tried without much luck! But they are beautiful birds, and friendly, curious, and mellow, too. They act like chickens. Only sooner - my roos were doing gurgly crows by four weeks!! One of the boys tried to mount one of the pullets at seven weeks!! They are so nice, I really felt bad about killing them...I miss not having them around.

I got them processed in Greenwich, NY, east of Saratoga, just on the east side of the Hudson River. A place called Garden of Spices. Ben Shaw is the guy's name. He did a great job. I was very pleased at how he handled the birds, and with the quality of the finished product. They were as gorgeous dead as they were alive.
