My chick hatched in the AM. And when I came home from work I noticed she had excess saliva in her mouth. She seems to be irritated/distressed by it. Does anyone know what this could be? I have removed her from brooder and I'm holding her to keep her warm and undisturbed by other chicks. I don't know what else to do?! Please help!

I'm sorry but I have no idea what the problem is. Please do post in "emergencies, diseases, injuries, cures," thread. You can probably find it faster by putting "emergency thread" in the search box. Do describe everything in detail and mention the age of the chick. Hopefully someone there will know what is wrong. I know in mammals when they have a lot of saliva it's because they are reluctant to swallow . Don't know if birds act the same. Please let us know how it turns out. Hoping the chick will be okay.

I am so sorry about your baby! I am not sure what the problem might be. You might post this not only in the emergency section but the raising baby chicks forums as well. Click on these links to start a new thread...

Good luck and I hope the baby is ok.

Thank you everyone! I was so desperate to get an answer for my chick I posted it in the wrong forum. Oops. The chick is still having the same problem. I tried calling all the vets yesterday early evening and they were all either closed for the day or didn't have a bird specialist. I hate seeing her so uncomfortable. Poor little girl. I have to work again today but I may give some of the vets that were closed yesterday a call and see if I can bring her in today after work. Thanks for all of your kind words!
