So i just hatched 2 grocery store quail eggs. They are doing well. One of them is pecking at the others feet. Is this normal quail acitivity? How to i get them to stop pecking eachothers toes? Sould i tape her feet?

That's pretty cool. I know nothing of quail, but chicks will often do that during their first few days too. I think they think toes are worms. Adding some shiny glass rocks seems to help to direct their pecking, otherwise a small piece of fencing to separate the troublemaker out can work. They generally grow out of that behavior pretty quickly, but that's in chickens, don't know if it's the same in quail.

Just out of curiosity, how many eggs did you incubate to get 2 babies?
I know quail farmers keep a few roosters in with the hens to keep flock dynamics from going haywire, so some eggs are fertile, but it's a pretty low number, so I'd imagine the number of fertile eggs per batch is low.

If those eggs were keep refrigerated I'd say hatching any is impressive. Not to mention those handling/shipping grocery store eggs aren't thinking about keeping air cells in-tacked.

And yes, it's very normal for quail chicks to peck at toes. I'd say scatter some food around to distract the little guy.

We put 20 in the incubator, 8 were fertile, only 5 made it to hatching. Unfortunately our incubator turned off and they were shrink-wrapped. We had to pull all the babies out. 2 having their insides out so we had to put them down...we had 3 make it, but the third one got over heated and died, we almost lost another due to the same thing but we pushed it forward towards life. She slept for a few days before she started running around. So it seems like a 2:8 ratio.

This is Fry and Aqua

Aqua almost drowned in the incubator and fell through the grate and then we had a poor him out with the water and then you almost drowned in the water bowl, and a different water bowl and then he fell off the counter anyways that's aqua! Fry almost got fried in the heating pad. We had 3 hatch but i pulled them out. They were shrinked wrapped from the horrible incuabtor. Soo frustrating!! Garbage it went.

They are soo differnt than chicks. They are like baby puppies and sound just like them when they want us! Lol and they grow really fast!

Project completed witb 2 baby quail. I fried the other in the heating mat so 3 we had.
