Been a while and I cant remember the correct answer
Day 21 was yesterday, today day 22 and I have 4 unhatched eggs and 8 chicks under a first time hen. Do I do nothing and just wait, because I figure whilst there are intact eggs she will continue to sit.
One chick has legs that are curled up around its wings and cant stand...
What action if any...

Many thanks in advance..

Andrew

Most broody hens will wait 2-3 days for all of the chicks to hatch before getting up to tend to the hatched chicks, this occasionally means abandoning some unhatched eggs. Nature accounts for this and the yolk sac that is absorbed by the chick before hatching will nourish them for up to 72 hours. I still place a small chick waterer and feeder next to my sitting hens.

It would help to post pictures of the chick with the leg problem but it does sound like it may be splay leg. If that is the case you would need to treat it sooner than later. I now use med wrap/vet wrap (the stretchy wrap that sticks only to itself without adhesive) it works better than any other method I've tried.

Goodness! Sandra my partner came out and said she wanted to get some pics 'cos they were out in front of the hen!
Splay leg is up and can walk, run:yaSo it may be just a slower developer, but seems ok.
Apparently cant upload image. Mozilla is asking for access to my files, they can go to hell. Over this mindless intrusion into privicy.
