She or he has been trying to hatch for 3 days and I finally decided to intervene this morning. I noticed a lot of gunk that I had to clean off of the chick w/ a q-tip while I was helping.....it smelled bad, real bad. She's breathing, but not trying to get up just laying there....I put her back in the incubator after I finished getting her out of the egg.

I'd leave her/him in the bator since it has the correct temp til it fluffs out some. Just let it rest since it took that long to hatch out. Keep an eye on it and when if fluffs out more you can move it to feed and water, shouldn't need any right away. Hope she makes it.

I'm curious, do y'all think it was starting to 'rot' in there? With all the foul smelling gunk I cleaned off of it?

I'm sure it didn't help having to sit in there for 3 days. The egg shells do get stinky after hatchings with humidity and temps.

keep an eye on it.. that gunk tend to dry and inhibits the chick's mobility.. It is egg , and you know how dry that can get..
