My DH will barely tolerate a rooster. I love the looks and characteristics of guineas, but I have read that they are noisy? Just how noisy are they? Is it only when they are disturbed or do they do it all the time?

Thanks,
Faye

If he can't tolerate a rooster crowing and you want a divorce, get guinneas........

they are always talking from the time they get up until they die.............

I can't get a divorce, because who would mow the lawn and take out the garbage?

I guess guineas are out. I will just keep appreciating everyone elses.

um, yeah, they are noisy! My hubby doesn't mind the noise. Of course, the guineas aren't ours, there is a flock of about 20 that wander my property, the neighbor's right next to me, and the neighbor's behind (to whom they belong). They are pretty much community guineas LOL we love them. Hubby likes the roosters too AND he makes pretty babies-- I think I'll keep him;)

I used to have 24 Guinea Hens and they are noisy all day long. They stay together in a flock and make a "Ma-greep, Ma-greep" sound all day long. They were fantastic at eating tons of deer ticks which covered the property though.

NOISY!!! My mom used to have guineas to help keep the ticks down on her property and they always made noise all day long, but got worse when something worried them. They are very loud. If your DH can't handle a rooster, the guineas would probably not be a good choice. Sorry!

I myself want some guineas. The noise is worth the ticks being gone! I guess you could always try and find someone who has some guineas just so you could introduce them to your DH and see if he thinks he could handle their noise. Just a thought!

They are noisy but it is a good noise that you will get used to. After a bit it becomes background noise. You will learn their alert sounds and chatter and will take a peek out the window to see what's up. The rest your brain will just funnel out.

Mine are very loud but it becomes a comforting barnyard noise during the day. If we got rid of the guineas I would suffer from it being too quiet here.

Plus, we never even have grasshoppers let alone ticks here in the summer. Trust me I don't want ticks, they find me especially good to eat!! The guineas can be a nusance at times..like when I run out to lock up the coop and there is always a pair who are late going in and no way can I rush them.

If he can't handle a single rooster forget guineas.
They scream at cars, bikes, planes, pedestrians. First two years are the worst. Then they calm down a bit by are still far noisier.

I just scream back now unless the dog alerts on their scream which means predator. It may be just a crow or something worse. I let the dog decide. He speaks guinea better than I do.

They are good guard "dogs". IF something is out of place or new..they will make noise. They are noisy.

I dont mind the noise but I have 7acres for them to roam on. When it was really cold out, they parked themselves on my front porch to sun themselves and made quite a bit of racket :|
