Just joined & building our coop! South Bay of Los Angeles

Hi everyone, my husband & I just bought a house last month & are excited to get out of an apartment & get our backyard chickens! He is building the coop as I write this. We found this site very helpful especially the "small coop" section as our yard is small.

We live in the South Bay of Los Angeles & will be ordering our chickens soon. We are looking into getting 2 Plymouth Rocks. We want them as pets for our 7 year old, bug eaters for our up & coming garden, & egg layers. I really wanted Silkies b/c they are pretty & I heard they were smart. But my husband wants good egg layers so we compromised.
