Greetings all,
Thought I would tell ya'll a little bit about myself. I'm not new to chickens, however I don't have any of my own yet. Up until February, when I retired, I worked on a farm/ranch. We raised Yak, grew organic veggies, and maintained a flock of some 250+ chickens along with a few ducks, turkeys and a couple of Emu's. Our purpose was to raise these for their eggs, not meat.
The breeds of the chickens we raised were Houdans, Americana, Phoenix, Polish, just to name a few, I don't recall all of them. My favorites were the Houdans and Americana which I will hopefully be raising soon. Working on the farm I got spoiled taking home fresh eggs from free ranged chickens every week so I'm interested in having 4 to 6 hens to produce eggs for the wife and I.
I discovered BackYardCkickens while doing a Google search for PVC chicken coops and found a post by CovertChickOps , which is the type I'm looking forward to build. I was sold on this site and decided to join.
I live in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, I'm not a hunter, though I do enjoy fresh game, venison, elk, antelope, geese, etc. which many of my friends are happy to share with me. I enjoy outdoor sports such as fishing, skiing, whitewater rafting however.
As stated before I worked on a farm that grew organic veggies, so I also enjoy gardening. I have a small (4 x 4) indoor hydroponic garden that I grow a mixed variety of salad greens along with tomatoes, carrots, onions, cucumbers, peppers and snow peas in. I most likely will be adding other varieties of veggies as time goes on.
We have 2 dogs, a male husky/shepherd and a full blooded female husky, both of them are about 10 years old that we rescued from animal shelters some years back.
Well that about sums it up about who I am, hope to see you in the forums and be a worth while contributor!
