I am ready to have a run build and make 1/2 of garden shed into a chicken house.
the shed has a wood floor (boards) and and I want to insulate it…..any ideas what to put down is greatly appreciated :)

Congratulations on your plans to return to the wonderful world of raising chickens! It's great that you have a building you can convert.

I have several (okay, too many) coops, and only one has an insulated floor. Hmm. Maybe my avatar coop has one, too. I don't know, I bought it used and never asked. The walls and ceiling are definitely insulated, so I guess the floor probably is, too.

The coop that I know has insulation was built using a leftover sheet of that rigid pink house insulation. It is sandwiched between plywood underneath it and a piece of salvaged hog-house wall material above it.

I don't worry about the birds in the other coops, and north central Iowa gets totally frigid.

Good luck with your building. Let us know when you get your flock, and welcome to ours!
