Just large Orpingtons.

Here it is, I found out that I wanted Buff Orpingtons.... but I only knew about "Buff". Now I know there are other colors and they are still orpingtons. I plan to enjoy Orpingtons of a different color now Lets have fun posting what we love and enjoy about the breed. Our color sucess and failure stories, breeding tips, family fun to go with it.... whatever suits you best.


Today I aquired 3 lemon cuckoo hens and a beautiful lemon cuckoo roster, which I added to my 30 buff Orpingtons. I really love the lemon shade, they are so beautiful, and their eggs are much lighter than the buffs. Does anyone else experience that?

Anyhow I drove 2 hours to get them and one layed an egg on the way home. I want to hatch it, but I don't have any brooding hens. I am attempting to regulate my toaster oven for now. Its hard to keep the temp completely stable. I also read that well endowed women can hatch an egg. anyone ever tried hatching that way. I might brave it one day in the name of science..... not sure if I want to commit though

I notinced I could find more Lavender and Blue/Black type orpingtons for sale than lemon cuckoo. How rare are they? I think I am sold after purchasing this rooster. I can't get over how pretty he is!

Yes he's my chickin lovin boy. They are his favorite thing- though he is an animal finatic period.

My children closed the chicken door to the barn.... I was outside watering after dark and heard the duck talking. So aI figures to go close the door as usuall.... but no 2/3 the flock was asleep outside. I didn't realize how hard it is to put sleeping chickens away! You have to litterally carry each one and put it inside on the perch. I tried just puting them through the door ans just made a pile of chickens that kept sleepwalking back out the door..... ug.
