my peacock has been penned up since july 10. he is a yearling indian blue male just in case someone wants to know. anyway i let him out, he wondered around a bit and then he started falling just the guineas around. i am wondering if he will always follow them around and make friends?
thanks.

well once he started following them my dominant guinea male attacked him and my peacock wouldn't fight back! is that because hes new to the place and once he knows what he is doing he will have dominance over him?anyway now if he is eating the male guinea will chase him away pulling out feathers and my peacock just keeps walking away!!! whats going on.

It is because he is new, but your guinea male may stay more dominant. It's not the size, it's the determination that counts. LOL
I have two emus that when they were babies the peacocks would chase them. Now that the emus are almost 6 foot and the peafowl have to jump up, the emu still run from them, although I think now it is little bit more of a game- mostly.

I agree it's not the size of the bird at all on the pecking order. Here the pea's rule the roost and they know it. Even the tom turkeys and geese will get out of the way after a pea peck. Just give them some time and they will settle out.

We just sold a pair of 3 1/2 year old India Blues last weekend. They were a trio and we kept one hen. She is still looking kind of lost, she hangs around with 5 year old trio but on the outside only. She won't or they won't let her go up to the tall roost with them but roosts on a lower branch by herself. In time they will all flock.
