I bought some hens a couple months ago that we're all supposed to be layers. Well, one turned out to be a rooster. Now over the last week one of my hens won't come off the nesting box. She has become aggressive and really wants to keep her eggs. I'm thinking of letting her hatch them. What do I need to do if I plan on letting her hatch them on her own? I figure nature will handle most of it. Do I need to build a special feeder that only chicks can get in? Will they stay in the nesting box, and she feeds them until they are bigger? I hate to sound stupid, but it looks like I've got about a month to figure this out.
