I have a few who are food-motivated, but I have a large number who will bypass food to be picked up and held. I have a great number of hens who are 7,8,9,10 and almost 11 years old. They would rather be held for an hour than eat, seriously. It can be hard when they are all vying for the same attention. They know we don't have food, they just want to be close to us, some right under our chins.

ETA: Delawares? Well there ya go. They are quintessential huggers! I have one left who is almost 9 yrs old and ailing now. Georgie is a royal pain, wanting to be held and she will insist.
