Welcome to BYC.
Everyone needs a run. Sooner or later a predator will appear. Hopefully it will appear when you are around to protect your flock. In any case, once they show up, they come back. I like having the option to lock mine up when needed.
There is also weather to consider. I live in a hot climate but occasionally it storms for days. It even snowed here once or twice.
A run also gives you a place for food and water that isn't accessible to rodents and wild birds.
 
Welcome to the flock. I really recommend that you have a run, even if you will let them loose in the yard most days. You might want to look through the predator and pest section to get an idea of what can happen. You also mention that you have dogs. Even if your dogs are well behaved it will take a while to train them to be safe around the chickens. Then there is the ugly specter of avian flu. Sometimes you may have to separate chickens for some reasons. So many reasons.
