just lost one...need to know how to add a new hen.

We just lost a sweet little hen of ours.

We don't know what she had, but she was very sick and we had to put her down. We want to get a new one to "replace" her right away. (We have a flock of three right now. All laying and about 5 months old.) But I've had several opposing views as far as how to add a new hen in. One person said unless they are separate for a number of weeks, the new one will die. Someone else said put the new one in at night and as long as she is the same size, it will be fine.

Please solve this for me! : )

If you get anything other than baby chicks you need to quarantine that bird for at least 4 weeks. Even with quarantine they may look and act fine, but be a carrier of a disease that could spread to your other birds.
