Just lost one of my Babies

I am so sorry for your loss. I work 3rd shift, so I make sure that my BF checks on them before he goes to bed to make sure that they are OK. Then I make him call me with the report. So far we have been doing well, but I have to admit that I rush home every morning to check on them.

On the bright side, i went to the feed store and the had extra chicks they were trying to sell, I told them my story and the game me a new Barrred Rock chick. He fit right in. Thanks for all your input.

I'm sorry for your loss.

It is so hard. We've lost 2 now (in 4 weeks) to our over-friendly dogs that insist on climbing into the brooder/grabbing a chick and taking them outside to play with them. They meant no harm (licked them to death) but I still count...everytime I go to the brooder. It's hard.

Nice that the feed store gave you a BR! How sweet was that??

Oh, wow a nice barred rock, you are lucky, it will be beautiful. Don't worry, sometimes these things happen, I just lost one that was nine days old today. But it never seemed to grow and stayed tiny and it was to be a full sized chicken. It happens. I still count heads every night when I put the chickens in lock down and they are no longer chicks.

I couldn't sleep if I knew I had left one outside.

So sorry. :aww You asked ,"What should I do now?" I wouldn't sit around worrying about the others by any means. Enjoy them!

Again, so sorry...

This what I'm so afraid of...
Getting my chicks in the mail on Wednesday... hoping not to find one or two dead... I was told this can happen, but I don't want to think about it.

I'm so sorry~

I'm sorry. I bought 5 chicks and all looked fine and were growing and playing and then suddenly 4 of the 5 died:( I am sad about it but hoping to get some more soon. At least for now my one lonely Bantam Chick has 2 Pekin Ducklings for company. I think he thinks he is a duck too.

Oh no! I lost my first a week ago, for no real reason that I could determine. It is hard! We haven't replaced her yet.

That's terrible to lose 4 out of 5!!

When I went back to the feed store yesterday all their chicks looked sickly. I think that they were sick to begin with. They had some ducks I've been looking for that they didn't have there last time but with the chicks so sick I did not dare bring home the crested ducklings. I'll find some somewhere else. I am hoping to find a poultry swap around here. Or, I may go to Kalona, Iowa and see what the Mennonites have for sale.

I have photos of them at least to remember them. http://www.redbubble.com/people/angelandspot/art/everything/tags/chick

The
survivior is the black one. It was 80 degrees that day so I wasn't worried about them getting cold and they weren't out that long. I kept them inside almost always and they lived 2 weeks here before I woke up one morning to find the 4 dead.
