Hi, I'm from Huntsville, Texas. I just sent 9 chicks out to the pen, with precautions taken of course. They are such a joy to raise, and I love everyone of em. Can't wait for Spring to do it again!!

Cielo - you've never thrown a rooster in a garage to keep him from crowing and waking you up? You must be from the country!
Ha ha.
I am! I also sleep with earplugs! I just find the idea of your husband doing that repeatedly more hilarious than anything I've heard in a while! "excuse me honey, I gotta go put the rooster in the garbage, be right back"
Question. I am ready to place my very first order of 2 Buff Orps, 2 Barred Rocks, 4 Easter Eggers and 2 RIR... all female. If the packing peanuts are roos of a different type, what kind of baby chicks can I expect when they start getting randy with the hens? Mutts? I really don't mind a few roos for packing peanuts, I also look at it as free meat. With an order of 10 chicks how many peanuts should I expect? My DH thinks I am ordering just 4 instead of the 10, so maybe I can play dumb lol.

I called Ideal. They said they try to throw in males of a different breed/color so they are easy to tell apart from the females. With my order of 11 chicks, they said probably 5 males. Call the company you're ordering from and they can tell you some good info.
