Just making sure I have this right. Max Number of birds for my coop.

Your run would only support 3 LF birds. Your coop would support 8. Can you make your run bigger? 8x10 would be needed to have 8 LF birds.

Well, they will have free range of the back yard when we're home, (I work from home, so we are home most of the time) they would ouly be confined to the run if we have to run errands.

With that much free range time, you should be fine with 8 LF chickens.

Since they would be out most of the time during the day, that should work. But if your schedule ever changes where they would end up being confined to the coop/run for a lot of the day, you'd definitely need to expand your run, as that is less than half the recommended outdoor space.

Be sure that you have plenty of free range room or that you're willing to let the chickens strip down the free range area to dirt if it isn't that large. One thing a sufficiently large run will do is keep the chickens under control in regards to their scratching, eating, de-flowering, etc., activities. There is a big difference (impact) in letting them free range in the backyard for an hour or two and letting them have the run of the place for eight hours.
